Already Here

When I sit in silence, I’m reminded that God is already everywhere—and I am usually the one who is absent.

So much of my life is lived distracted, hurried, moving from one thing to the next. And then I come to a quiet place, I still my body, I let my mind settle, and suddenly I become aware of God’s presence. Not because He arrived—but because I did. I showed up. That distinction matters. God isn’t showing up to me in silence; I’m finally showing up to Him.

I was listening to a podcast today that spoke about being with Jesus throughout the ordinary moments of our day—about living with an awareness of His presence. It made me think about Jesus’ promise to send the Advocate, the Spirit. The word itself means “another one.” Another helper. Another presence. Almost as if Jesus was saying, I am sending another one of me to be with you and to dwell within you.

If that’s true—and I believe it is—then the question isn’t, Jesus, are you here?
The question is, Jesus, am I aware that You are here?

Am I aware of You when I’m writing emails?
When I’m washing dishes or folding laundry?
When I’m running, driving, or speaking with my kids?

It’s easy to feel aware of God when I’m reading Scripture or praying—when my attention is intentionally turned toward Him. But what would it look like to live with that same awareness throughout the entire day? To sense His presence in every moment?

That’s the practice I want to grow in: not inviting God into my life, but acknowledging that He is already here—and resisting the pull to be so distracted, busy, or hurried that I forget to be here with Him.
