Clouds

By

I found myself today on a plane after 15 years on the ground.

Sitting in front of me was a little girl and her mom. As the plane climbed, the little girl looked out the window and said,
“Mom, we can’t see where we’re going because of this!”

Her mom’s answer was simple:
“Clouds.”

The little girl leaned back in her seat and resumed playing with her toys. She wasn’t worried about how she would get through the clouds. She wasn’t concerned about visibility or direction. She just trusted her mom — and that it would all work out.

How often in life do we look around and see clouds?

We look at our circumstances and think, This isn’t what I expected.
We ask God, What is this in the way? Why can’t I see where this is going?

And sometimes His answer feels just as simple.
Not a detailed explanation.
Not a five-step roadmap.
Just an invitation to trust.

On a plane, we have a pilot steering.
We have instruments and technology guiding the path.
We have people who have flown before reminding us that clouds are normal.

So often we live as though we are the ones flying the plane — gripping imaginary controls, straining for visibility — when in reality, we are passengers.

Thankfully, God does not leave us confused or without help.

Psalm 119:105 says,
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Not a floodlight for the whole journey.
A lamp for the next step.

We have God’s Word lighting our way.
We have the Holy Spirit gently guiding and reminding.
We have the community of faith — people who have been through clouds before — telling us, “This is normal. You’re not off course.”

We are not alone navigating our way through the clouds.

And just like that little girl leaned back in quiet confidence, we too can rest.

Because even when we cannot see clearly,
God can.
