Inspired by Luke 7:11–17
On the road to a town called Nain,
A crowd follows the compassionate Rabbi.
His words fill the air as they travel along,
And they listen as hours slip by.
Within the town, a widow weeps,
Her only son now gone.
Had heaven turned its face away?
How would she face the dawn?
They lift up her lifeless son,
Her heart’s undone by grief.
With heavy steps they near the gate,
No comfort brings relief.
One crowd following death,
The other following Life.
Outside the gates of Nain,
Suddenly, two worlds collide.
The Rabbi sees the widow,
His heart breaks open wide.
He steps into the path of death,
And calls the dead to rise:
“Young man, I say to you, get up!”
His voice is like no other.
The dead man sits up and begins to talk,
Jesus returns him to his mother.
The crowds are gripped with awe and fear,
Amazed at what they’ve seen.
Life has overtaken death!
Praise the God who intervenes!
Two crowds had met outside the gates,
But one returned that day.
A mother and her son walked home,
With Life to lead the way.
